"The power of friendship and listening to your mentor gets you far in neuroscience and its practices."
Felix Ming Woei Shen is a Senn High School graduate who participated in the DANA Program for Neuroscience & Society during his junior and senior years.. He attended after-school workshops, the summer ETHOS program, and Neuroscience and Society Day.
While taking part in the program, Shen said one of the biggest lessons he learned was not about research or ethics, but about the unexpected collaborative nature of the neuroscience field.
“The power of friendship and listening to your mentor gets you far in neuroscience and its practices,” Shen said.
Shen said he loves neuroscience and that future ETHOS students should treat volunteers and mentors with respect and appreciation, emphasizing Dr. Yu, whom Shen especially enjoyed learning from during his time in the neuroscience labs at Loyola.
Looking forward, Shen plans to study at Loyola University Arrupe College in the fall– with hopes to transfer to Loyola University after completing his first two years.
