Huria Imran

"Fascinating, and sparked a deeper interest in research for me."

Huria Imran is a student who worked with the DANA Program for Neuroscience & Society last year during her junior and senior years at Senn High School. She participated in the after-school workshops, summer ETHOS program and Neuroscience and Society Day.

Imran said one of her most valuable experiences in her time with the program took place during Neuroscience and Society Day. She said taking part in an opportunity for leadership while near-peer mentoring middle school students during the event was a fun and interesting way to learn.

The ETHOS program allowed Imran to be exposed to more career opportunities, provided her with valuable experience, and helped her establish connections, ultimately securing her a summer internship at Loyola. In her internship with the Loyola neuroscience lab over the summer, Imran worked with Drosophila– also known as fruit flies. In the lab, she learned how to use a microscope and other necessary lab tools.

“Seeing the tiny details of the fruit flies up close was fascinating and sparked a deeper interest in research for me,” Imran said.

Imran said students who are considering participation in the ETHOS program at Loyola should go for it, saying, “This experience will be worth it.”

In the Fall, Imran will attend the University of Illinois Springfield
