Elizabeth Rocha
“My favorite moment in my lab is being able to do the EEG experiments with the babies.”
Elizabeth Rocha is a Sullivan high school Senior that participated in Dr. Guy’s lab during the summer ETHOS program. Rocha learned about the experience during a discussion in her physics class and it piqued her interest. Although she was already intrigued by the medical field prior to summer ETHOS, she thought it would be interesting to learn about neuroscience specifically.
In the lab, along with her partner Alexa Garcia, Rocha carried out EEG experiments to research how babies familiarize themselves with faces and objects as they get older. “One thing I enjoyed is working with babies and the experiments. They were really cute and it was nice working with other people,” Rocha said. Although she said she did not enjoy the coding portions of the lab, reading articles and completing a virtual bootcamp about EEGs were other aspects of the ETHOS experience she enjoyed.
Rocha plans to attend college after her high school graduation, but is undecided on her career path. As of right now, she is contemplating going into the medical field, potentially pursuing a nursing degree.
