Dr. Todd Ruppar is an internationally recognized expert on medication adherence. His work uses both meta-analysis and clinical research methods to quantify the various influences on adherence to cardiovascular medications and to then improve patient outcomes by developing effective interventions through which patients and providers can work together to address medication non-adherence.
Funding for Dr. Ruppar’s work has been provided by many organizations, including the National Institutes of Health, the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the American Heart Association, the John A. Hartford Foundation, and the PhRMA Foundation, among others. He serves on committees for the cardiovascular nursing councils of the American Heart Association and European Society of Cardiology, and has been a grant reviewer for several organizations including PCORI, AHA, and NIH. Dr. Ruppar has active roles in several professional organizations, including the American Heart Association, the Midwest Nursing Research Society, and the International Society for Medication Adherence (ESPACOMP). Dr. Ruppar also serves as Editor-in-Chief of the Western Journal of Nursing Research.
Dr. Ruppar completed BSN and MSN degrees at Saint Louis University, a PhD at the University of Missouri, and a post-doctoral fellowship in medication adherence at the University of Leuven, Belgium.
Research Interests
Dr. Ruppar is interested in various types of health behavior research. His meta-analysis work has investigated various types of health behavior, and his clinical research has focused on medication adherence and self-care interventions in cardiovascular conditions.
