Sadek Showkat

Assistant Professor of Management


Sadek Showkat is an Assistant Professor of Management and Entrepreneurship at Loyola University Chicago’s Quinlan School of Business. He holds a PhD in Entrepreneurship and brings decade-long management and entrepreneurial experience in China, India, and Bangladesh. His research explores entrepreneurship as a mechanism for adaptation in marginalized contexts.
Sadek has received awards for research, teaching, and service. He was recognized in 2021 as the most promising junior scholar and received the 2023 RRBM Dare to Care Dissertation Proposal Award, an international recognition for responsible research. His dissertation on the lived experiences of refugee entrepreneurs received the 2024 John Richards Binford Memorial Award for outstanding scholarship and disciplinary contributions, the Dean’s Citation Award from the University of Louisville for superior graduate achievement, and was a finalist for the Academy of Management (AOM) ONE Division’s Best Dissertation Award. His research was also selected as a finalist for Best Paper at AIB 2025 and BCERC 2025.

For teaching excellence, Sadek has been recognized as a Student Champion multiple times. He reviews for journals such as Entrepreneurship Theory and Practice, Journal of World Business, and Small Business Economics. For his reviewing, he received the Best Reviewer Award from the AOM ONE Division.

At Quinlan, he teaches the foundations of entrepreneurship and management for undergraduates, advises the Future Founders Club, and coordinates the Quinlan Invited Speaker Series. Sadek credits his family, colleagues, and mentors for their support. In his free time, he watches Netflix, plays guitar, and spends time with family.
