Jared Rutecki

Jared is a data-focused investigative reporter at WTTW News (Chicago Tonight) and PBS Chicago, where he uncovers corruption, malfeasance, waste, fraud, abuse and inequity in both the public and private sectors. He has about 20 years of experience in journalism, with a focus on data analysis and public records.
He reports on a variety of topics including elections, politics, police, drug policy, transportation and the legal system, for both web and broadcast platforms. He has won multiple local and national awards for his watchdog stories, including a Sigma Delta Chi Award and the Eugene S. Pulliam First Amendment Award. He is passionate about advancing the public's right to know and holding the powerful accountable.
Jared is a graduate of Ohio University and Otterbein University. He previously worked at newsrooms including the BGA/Illinois Answers Project and The Columbus Dispatch.
