Archaeology Field School

May 10 - May 29, 2026

2026 LUREC archaeology field school flyer

Ever wonder what it’s like to actually do archaeological fieldwork? This course offers students the chance to practice a wide range of field and laboratory techniques—survey, mapping, excavation, documentation, and artifact analysis—while contributing to an ongoing research program at LUREC. Along the way, students will develop skills and knowledge valued in Cultural Resource Management (CRM), including systematic survey, surface collection, basic mapping, shovel test pitting, excavation, laboratory techniques, relevant laws, reporting, and stakeholder engagement.

This course does not have prerequisites, but levels of thinking and reflection appropriate for a 300-level undergraduate course will be expected. Students are highly encouraged to take a course in archaeology (e.g., ANTH 241: Principles of Archaeology) prior to enrolling in the field school. The course can be used towards the major or minor in Anthropology and fulfills the university’s Engaged Learning requirement.

This archaeology field school will be taught by three LUC archaeologists who have worked in Europe, Africa, and the Americas.

Space is limited, so contact us to enroll:
