Resources for International Guests

To support the application for a B-2 visa*, International Student & Scholar Services (ISSS) recommends that you (the student) provide the following to the applicant (your family member or guest):

A letter to your invitee

A letter from you to your invitee, written in English, formally inviting them to visit you (see template below). If your family member or guest does not read English, you should also provide a translated copy so they understand the contents of the letter that the visa officer will review.

Note: This letter should be sent to the individual applying for the visa. The applicant must present it to the U.S. Embassy or Consulate when submitting the application for a B-2 (tourist) visa. The applicant should also provide as much supporting documentation as possible to demonstrate that he or she intends to depart the United States before the expiration of his or her authorized stay.

Evidence of your valid student status

Evidence of your valid student status includes:

  1. Copies of your academic transcript.
  2. A letter from the Registrar confirming your current enrollment and, if applicable, your program start date. The letter can be requested from The Department of Registration and Records at Loyola.
  3. Copies of your Form I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa, and most recent I-94 record.

Evidence of ability to financially support

Evidence of your financial ability to support your visitor during their stay (if applicable), such as an assistantship award letter or recent bank statement. This documentation is required only if your visitor does not have sufficient funds to cover their own expenses while visiting the United States.
