Director - Dr. Paula Tallman
Paula Skye Tallman, PhD is Assistant Professor of Anthropology and Carolyn Farrell, BVM, Endowed Professor in Women and Leadership for the Gannon Center of Women and Leadership. She received her BA from Johns Hopkins University and her PhD from Northwestern University.
Dr. Tallman's research integrates perspectives and methods from anthropology and global health to examine how environmental factors are linked to human health in South America and Southeast Asia. Her most recent action-oriented research examines the relationship between water insecurity and women’s health in Peru and Indonesia.
In total, Dr. Tallman has published over 20 peer-reviewed articles and received over $1 million in funding from organizations such as the National Science Foundation, the Schmitt Foundation, the Wenner-Gren Foundation and the British Academy. She has been recognized for her engaged teaching and mentorship through multiple university-wide awards including the:
- Langerbeck Outstanding Undergraduate Researcher Mentor Award (2024-25)
- Peter Hans Kolvenbach Award for Engaged Teaching (2024-25)
- Alice B. Hayes Faculty Teaching Award for Advising and Mentoring (2023-2024)
