Beyond the Cohort: Stephanie Morales
Stephanie Morales is an alumna of two of our esteemed science cohorts: Science Master Teacher Leader Academy, and Science Master Teacher Leadership Cohort (Formerly PLLA). For the latter, she skillfully led district professional learning sessions, and is celebrated for her unwavering passion for creativity paired with scientific understanding. Each year, her students at Garvey Elementary School look forward to exciting class projects that blend fun with fundamental principles of science.
The Magic of Electrical Haunted Houses
As the school year unfolds, students eagerly anticipate the exciting challenge of constructing their electrical haunted houses. This project transcends mere Halloween fun; it serves as a hands-on application of series and parallel circuits. Stephanie shares, “I love to see the students' eyes light up when they realize they can bring their ideas to life.” This experience aligns perfectly with the Harnessing Human Energy and Light Waves units, reinforcing critical concepts while encouraging students to tap into their imagination.
In the spring, students shift focus to designing Paper Roller Coasters, which builds excitement leading up to their class trip to Six Flags. Stephanie says, “It's incredible to see how much they learn about force and motion while having fun.”
A Journey of Connection and Growth
This year, Stephanie embraces a new role that has rekindled her enthusiasm for teaching content she hasn’t covered in years. “It’s been refreshing to return to familiar topics with a new set of students,” she explains. The previous teacher left behind a treasure box of resources, which she has eagerly integrated into her curriculum.
Building connections with fellow educators through the alumni cohort has profoundly influenced her teaching style. Stephanie reflects, “Connecting with teachers from across the district has truly shaped my career.” She often returns to the classroom inspired by the innovative ideas she gathers from her peers.
Leadership and Lifelong Learning
As an active participant in leadership initiatives within her school, Stephanie continually seeks new avenues for professional growth. “I believe that learning doesn’t stop; it’s a lifelong journey,” she asserts. This commitment not only enhances her development but also enriches the entire school community.
Words of Wisdom for Future Educators
When asked what advice she would offer to future cohort members, Stephanie doesn’t hesitate: “Continue to seek out opportunities! There are so many things out there to try, connections to make, and experiences to gain. Also, have fun while you are in the process. In the moment, it may seem hard, but putting in the work is always worth it.”
It’s clear that for Stephanie, teaching isn’t just about delivering engaging lessons; it's about fostering a love of learning, collaboration, and finding joy in the process.
