How to Apply
Applicants to the PhD program should have a GPA of 3.50 or above and a BA or MA degree in English or a related discipline. Applicants without an MA will be considered for admission to the PhD.
Applications have the following required components:
- A statement of purpose. Good advice on this component may be found in the University of Washington’s page on Writing the Statement of Purpose for Graduate Programs in English.
- A sample of academic writing. This should be an essay, usually between 10 and 20 double-spaced pages in length, making an interpretative argument about one or more works of literature, and engaging with literary criticism and/or theory appropriate to its topic.
- Three academic letters of recommendation.
- Official transcripts from all institutions attended.
