Final Steps Before Departure
Obtaining Loyola Transcripts
At the end of their exchange program, students will need to request that Loyola University Chicago send their transcripts to their home institutions. Students MUST make this request in order to receive credit for their time abroad at Loyola. Students can request their transcripts through LOCUS if they still have access to the system. If they do not, a request can be made through the Registrar’s Office.
Current and former exchange students may request copies of their Loyola transcripts using the links below:
30-Day Grace Period
After the completion of their program, all J-1 students have a 30-day grace period to do the following:
- Depart the U.S.
- Begin a new degree program at Loyola University Chicago
- Begin a new degree program at different institution
- Change to a different immigration status
- Complete Academic Training
Academic Training
Academic Training (AT) allows students in J-1 status to gain practical experience in their field of study and can be used during, or after. the J-1 program. Exchange students are eligible for AT corresponding to the amount of time spent studying in the exchange program. (Example: 4 month exchange program = 4 months of AT)
Exchange students interested in AT must request authorization before their program end date and before beginning employment. This authorization is employer and date specific and may not begin later than thirty (30) days after the completion of a student’s studies.
Interested students can learn more, and request Academic Training authorization from ISSS, by submitting a request in the ISSS Portal.
