Charles Benjamin

Charles Benjamin, Ph.D. is an international development leader and consultant with more than three decades of experience in governance, organizational strategy, and program design across the Middle East and Africa. A former Peace Corps Volunteer and Fulbright Fellow in Morocco, he served as President and CEO of the Near East Foundation from 2010 to 2022, overseeing operations in eleven countries with programming in climate-resilient development, inclusive economic development, and stabilization. Since 2022, he has consulted on organizational strategy and governance for international NGOs and serves as Interim Executive Director of the Near East Relief Historical Society. Charlie has taught at Williams College and Syracuse University and published on environmental governance, legal pluralism, and decentralization in World Development and other journals. He is based in Syracuse, New York.
