JD Programs

Understanding the kind of financial assistance programs for which you may qualify—and how to apply—is an important part of the law school process. We’ve laid out a step-by-step guide for you:

  1. Submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA)—by March 1, if you can. The earliest you can submit the FAFSA is October 1st in the year prior to when you’ll receive aid. Loyola’s code is 001710. The information you submit on the FAFSA is used to determine your federal aid eligibility.
  2. Apply and Complete Your Application. We consider all admitted students for merit scholarships when we review your file for admission. There is nothing additional you need to do. Announcement of your award is included in the admission letter.
  3. Review and Apply for Specialized Scholarships and Fellowships by March 15. Review the requirements and application process for these awards. If you are an upperclass student, we have awards just for you.
  4. Review Your FAFSA Submission Summary. After completing the FAFSA, you will receive a FAFSA Submission Summary (FSS), which you review and adjust if you find errors.
  5. Review Financial Aid Notification. If you complete the FAFSA and send information to Loyola University Chicago, the Financial Aid Office will email you a financial aid award notice. This will include the cost of attendance, your eligibility for Loyola aid programs and loans, as well as instructions on how to accept awards. For students who complete the FAFSA, notification will begin in late spring and continue on a rolling basis. For those who do not complete the FAFSA, this information will be available over the summer.
  6. Research External Scholarship Opportunities. Whether you use Access Lex Institute’s Law Student Scholarship Database, FastWeb, Scholarships.com or use our external funding list, do your research to identify other scholarships and grants for which to apply.
  7. Review Payment Plans. Loyola offers several payment plans for those who will be covering some portion of their tuition out-of-pocket.
  8. Compare Private Loans. We strongly encourage students to use Elmselect, a free resource to compare private loan details such as interest rates, repayment terms and eligibility requirements.

Still have questions? The JD Admission & Scholarships Office can assist you through the process. We can be reached at 312.915.7170 or law-admissions@LUC.edu. If you are an admitted student or a continuing student and have a question about your FAFSA, financial aid awards, or loans, the Financial Aid Office can help.
