It is with great sadness that the Department announces the death of Emeritus Professor Thomas Wren, who passed away October 29, 2025. Professor Wren joined the Department in 1966 and retired in 2019.

The Department mourns the loss of our colleague and friend Vince Samar, who passed away December 29, 2024. A memorial service was held at Loyola University Chicago on February 26, 2025.
It is with great sadness that the Department announces the death of Fr. Harry Gensler, who passed away on June 8, 2022. Fr. Gensler, retired Professor of Philosophy, taught at Loyola University Chicago from 1981-1996 and 2014-2021.
