2025 Recipient of the Vincent J. Duminuco, S.J., Award for Assessment Leadership
The School of Continuing and Professional Studies (SCPS) is proud to announce that Eva Mika, PhD, interim associate dean for assessment and compliance, and clinical associate professor of Applied Psychology, received the inaugural Vincent J. Duminuco, S.J. Award for Assessment Leadership during last week’s University Convocation.
“The work of assessing student learning at Loyola is driven by reflection, discernment, and action–hallmarks of a Jesuit education rooted in the Ignatian pedagogical paradigm,” said Jim Parenti, dean of the School of Continuing and Professional Studies. “This award recognizes Dr. Mika as a Loyola faculty member whose leadership exemplifies these principles and whose commitment to advancing the assessment of student learning has made a lasting impact on our school and the university at large.”
Dr. Mika has been instrumental in developing outcomes assessment and metrics programs across SCPS, including a quasi-experimental pre- and post-assessment of writing skills.
She also led a case study exploring how students visually represent complex data in embedded assignments in the Information Technology BA curriculum. Most recently, she completed an evaluation of how students develop critical thinking skills while forming legal arguments in the Institute of Paralegal Studies.
Dr. Mika has worked at Loyola University since 2003. Prior to joining SCPS in 2017, she taught psychology and gender studies courses for the Psychology Department. In her current role, she provides oversight for undergraduate curriculum development, quality and assessment, and mentors adjunct faculty on best practices related to the instruction of adult learners. Dr. Mika also teaches courses in applied behavioral science. Her expertise includes program evaluation, curriculum assessment, project management, health promotion, and fostering a sense of community in online settings. She holds a PhD in Clinical-Community Psychology from DePaul University.
