Supply Chain Strategies for Middle-Market Companies
Tim Engstrom of LA-CO Industries was our guest expert speaker and led a diverse group from middle-market sized companies in a discussion about attracting and developing talent for such enterprises. He described the journey at LA-CO, where they recruited hi-potential staff members who voluntarily took on additional responsibility. This group received classroom training on continuous improvement principles and then had a real-life “capstone” project such as SKU rationalization and improving delivery speed.
Tim went on to describe how they have recruited from the developmentally challenged workforce for positions that align with individuals strengths and have seen increased productivity and reduced absenteeism. Formerly incarcerated individuals represent an additional hiring opportunity. This group frequently faces a “cement ceiling” as they re-enter society.
