Jamie Wittenberg

Jamie V. Wittenberg, MSLIS, serves as the Dean of University Libraries at Loyola University Chicago. Wittenberg has been instrumental in shaping national digital infrastructure and improving library operations at scale. Before joining Loyola, she served as the Assistant Dean for Research & Innovation Strategies at the University of Colorado Boulder. She held previous leadership positions at Indiana University and the University of California, Berkeley. Wittenberg's research focuses on the evolving landscape of scholarly communication, including research data management, open scholarly infrastructure, digital library technologies, data curation and citation, and scholarly publishing systems.
Wittenberg's work is supported by significant grant funding. Recent grants include Technology Assistance for Student Success, which provided funding for laptops and hotspot for low-income students; The Shared Big Data Gateway for Research Libraries, which built a science gateway for text and data mining across nine research universities in the Midwest; and Joint Professional Development Institute to Cultivate Collaborative Library Scholars, which provided seed funding for research collaborations between librarians and campus faculty.
In addition to her role at Loyola, Wittenberg serves as the President of the Board of Directors for the global nonprofit DataCite and contributes to several national library steering groups. Her work reflects a commitment to building sustainable shared infrastructure that equips students to navigate an increasingly information-saturated world.
Wittenberg holds a BA from Bard College, a master’s degree in culture, media, and cultural management from Humboldt-Universität zu Berlin, and a Master of Science in Library and Information Science (MSLIS) from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign. She is currently completing her Doctorate of Education in Leadership for Educational Equity at the University of Colorado Denver.
