Hello! My name is Jose, and I'm here to tell you about my Arrupe College experience.
What is your degree and how/why did you select your degree?
I am getting my associate of arts in social behavioral science with a concentration in psychology. I chose to go the psychology route to get a better understanding of the processes of people's behaviors and thoughts. The way people are today is the reason of how they were brought up. I want to become an attorney after my bachelor's degree and me getting educated through psychology will help to better understand people and what ways I can help out others.
What professor should a new student absolutely take a class with and why?
The best professor I could ever recommend is Kelly Neenan. She was one of the best professors I have had so far, and she has taught me how to better my writing skills so much. I took college writing one and two with her and I gained that confidence with her to trust myself with my writing and how expressive writing can be. I will always recommender to everyone!
Where is your favorite place on campus and why?
My favorite place on campus has to be the Corboy Library in the law building. The views are incredible and they have study rooms students can sit and do their work to get a change of scenery. There are also different floors and a designated quite area where everyone has to be quiet. It's definitely such a beautiful thing to be up there and seeing other fellow peers "locked-in" motivating you to also get work done.
What is a moment where you felt like you belonged at Arrupe?
The moment I knew I belonged at Arrupe was when I would conversate with so many people my first semester here at Arrupe. I would talk to my peers and my professors and gave me further motivation that I can get higher education, and I do belong here with other incredible students.
What is some advice you would give an incoming freshman?
To my incoming freshman I would say advocate for yourself! If you are struggling with a class talk to your advisor about your struggles and they would point out to where you can find further help. When I was struggling with my math class I talked about it to my advisor and she introduced me to the math fellows. There so many resources not all students take advantage due to students not advocating for themselves. That's why I'm sharing the news to incoming students to talk to those trusted adults, and they will help you out with anything you need help with!
