The Loyola University Chicago community mourns the death of Aleksandr (Sasha) Goltsiker, PhD, a retired faculty member from the Department of Physics, who passed away peacefully on January 6.
Before joining the Loyola community in 2001, Dr. Goltsiker distinguished himself as a physics professor in Russia and was a leading researcher in the area of controlled combustion. He became a full-time faculty member at Loyola in 2004 and was renowned for his work as a lab instructor and lecturer, teaching a wide variety of physics courses, during his Loyola tenure. Dr. Goltsiker retired from his full-time faculty role in 2015 and transitioned to teach part-time for both the mathematics and physics departments until the spring of 2020. His dedicated mentorship of undergraduate students over the years led several Loyola students to make presentations at local symposia and national meetings.
Dr. Goltsiker will be remembered for his love of physics, thirst for knowledge and understanding, genuine care for his students, and his special sense of humor.
