The Loyola University Chicago community mourns the death of Andrew K. Dingwall, PhD, a faculty member in the Stritch School of Medicine, who passed away Monday, July 24, after a long illness.
Dr. Dingwall was a professor of Cancer Biology, Pathology and Laboratory Medicine. He also led the Stritch MD/PhD program with tremendous dedication and a love for its students. His presence will be greatly missed.
Remembering Dr. Dingwall
- A prayer of remembrance will be offered on Monday, July 31, at noon in the Stritch atrium (Cuneo Center, 2nd floor) during the Feast Day Mass of Saint Ignatius Loyola. A special prayer for Dr. Dingwall will be heard and we encourage all to attend as an opportunity for prayer and communal support. Information on a remembrance service for Dr. Dingwall is forthcoming.
- Health Sciences Campus Ministry has set up three remembrance tables to honor Dr. Dingwall. Students, faculty, and staff can find them outside of HSC Ministry (Cuneo Center, 2nd floor), outside the Graduate School office on the first floor of the CTRE, and in the Cardinal Bernardin Cancer Center (3rd floor near Dr. Dingwall’s office). Each table will have candles to light and cards for anyone who wants to write a note to Dr. Dingwall’s family.

The HSC Ministry team is available to the entire Stritch and HSC Graduate School communities. Biomedical Sciences graduate students and Stritch physicians-in-training also may contact the HSC Wellness Center (Cuneo Center, 4th floor) to help process this loss. Students may schedule mental health appointments by calling 773.508.2530; appointments are available 24/7 for mental health emergencies. Faculty and staff may wish to access EAP resources.
