The Loyola University Chicago community mourns the passing of Cody Leonhardt, a second-year student in the School of Law, who passed away on January 15.
According to his family, Cody enjoyed fishing with his dad, cooking/baking, and loved playing video games. They also wanted our community to know that Cody was on a leave of absence while he focused on receiving treatment for mental health challenges. The University supports the Leonhardt family’s strong recommendation that all students take advantage of the Wellness Center and other mental health resources and services.
Giselle Santibanez-Bania, assistant dean of student services for the School of Law, remembers that “Cody was such a sweet, caring, bright young man. I worked with him several times at Loyola and have nothing but the highest regard for him.”
Services will be Thursday, January 19, 2023, with visitation from 3 p.m. until closing time, followed by poem and words of remembrance at 8 p.m. at the Elmwood Funeral Chapel 11300 W. 97th LN. St. John, IN. For more information, please visit elmwoodchapel.com
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions to National Alliance on Mental Illness are preferred.
Please keep Cody and his family, as well as all those whose lives he touched, in your thoughts and prayers.
