The Loyola University Chicago community mourns the loss of Joseph Stone, JD, retired faculty member in the School of Law, who passed away on December 31, 2025.   

Stone was the founding director of the School of Law’s Business Law Clinic (which recently celebrated its 25th anniversary), and he held the inaugural Randy and Melvin Berlin Professorship of Business Law.   

Over his distinguished career, Stone was of counsel at Seyfarth Shaw, and his law practice focused on corporate, real estate, mediation, and arbitration. He held several leadership positions, including president of the Chicago Bar Association and president of the National Conference of Bar Presidents. In 2016, he was honored as a Justice John Paul Stevens Fellow. He was a board member and fellow of The InterNational Academy of Dispute Resolution (INADR) and received its Lifetime Achievement Award.
