Where can my student find Career Services?
Career Services has two, student-facing office locations: Sullivan Center, Suite 255, Lakeshore Campus and Schreiber Center, Suite 115, Water Tower Campus.
Visit our contact page for details. You can also learn more about how your student can schedule an appointment.
When should my student connect with Career Services?
It’s never too early or too late for your student to connect with our office.
We encourage students to get started by setting up a profile in Handshake, our career management platform, and joining one or more career communities, based on their interests.
We also offer career-specific orientations throughout the year, access to PathwayU, a career exploration tool, as well as a variety of events (career tours, career fairs, networking with alumni).
How does Career Services communicate with students?
Career Services communicates with students through our Handshake career platform. All students receive key information about relevant career events/career fairs throughout their time at Loyola. Once students choose a 'Career Community' they begin to receive targeted communication from their career advisor about relevant events and opportunities.
Career Services also reaches out to students before they begin their college journey to ensure students are introduced to Career Services before they begin UNIV 101 - a required first year class that includes key career content.
My student already has a specific career path in mind. How do they get the right support?
Career Services meets every student where they are in their career journey throgh our Career Communities Model. All students take our PathwayU assessment to help determine which communities are best for them.
Our 11 undergraduate career communities represent career paths across Business & Technology; Health, Medicine & Natural Sciences; Arts, Public & Human Services, Policy & Law. Students are encouraged to join any career communities that overlap with their interests to get connected to an advisor and resources. Students are able to adjust their career community selections at any time. View the Career Communities page to learn more about which career pathways align with each community.
How can I learn more about the Student Employment Program and Federal Work Study?
Student Employment/Work-Study spans two campuses, 450 campus offices, and 30 Community-based organizations.
Student employees must apply for positions. Work-Study is a competitive process that mirrors a post-graduate job search process, so meeting with a career advisor is a great first step. To assist in the job search process check out our Student Employment Website.
Work-Study is a Federal grant awarded as part of a Financial Aid Package. It is earned by working a job either on-campus or in Community Work-Study during the fall or spring semester (not during summer).

When should my student apply for an internship?
This is a discussion your student can have with a career advisor because the answer depends on several factors, including: a student's career readiness, the field of study, and the cycle of internship season (summer, fall, winter, spring).
Some colleges at Loyola require an academic internship course for graduation.
Internships are one of several ways students gain meaningful experience as they pursue a chosen career. There is no perfect time for an internship, but it's an important milestone in their college career.
Do you help students find internships/jobs only in Chicago, or beyond?
Many Loyola students will choose to intern in the Chicago area during the academic year and/or if their permanent home location is Chicago. However, we can help them find internships anywhere across the globe.
Career Services offers a variety of resources to connect students to employers for part-time jobs, internships and full-time positions from all sectors, including Handshake, a global job search platform, on-campus career fairs, GoinGlobal, and LoyolaLinked, our alumni-student mentorship program.
We also have reciprocity agreements with universities that are part of the Association of Jesuit Colleges & Universities. This allows our students access to career resources at these partner schools. Students must make a request with our office to get started.
