Projects

Our research currently focuses on two main areas:

  1. Autonomy of IO bureaucracies: This area explores the degree to which officials working in IOs are autonomous and/or their work is completely controlled by representatives of member-states. We are developing a dataset to test a number of hypotheses that are inspired from the work of domestic government institutions.
  2. IOs as restraints on power: This area explores the various institutions in IOs (assemblies, courts, bodies of experts, etc.) that can act to restrain states in their actions. We compare such institutions to domestic institutions such as parliaments, courts, and expert boards.
