DOS CARE Fund

The CARE Fund is a limited fund designed specifically to support students who experience unforeseen, short-term financial emergencies during the academic year. Requests for emergency CARE funds are reviewed by the Office of the Dean of Students on a case-by-case basis and are intended to assist with unexpected financial hardships, rather than routine or anticipated expenses.

Funding for emergency hardships may include support for the following, when the expense is the direct result of an unanticipated crisis, emergency, or other urgent circumstance:

  • Food and basic needs
  • Transportation expenses due to an unanticipated crisis, emergency or other urgent circumstance
  • Housing insecurity
  • Other personal expenses as a result of a personal emergency

Loyola students are eligible to receive emergency CARE funds once per academic year up to $500. The amount awarded is determined by demonstrated need and is subject to the availability of funds. CARE funds are not a substitute for financial aid or student loans and may not be applied toward tuition and fees. All financial aid and student loan options, including available PLUS loans, must be reviewed before being considered for CARE funds.

Eligibility for financial hardship funds:

  • Must be a currently enrolled student or demonstrate future enrollment for continuing students
  • Must have exhausted all other possible financial resources, including student loans, before applying for emergency hardship funds

Expenses that are typically not considered emergencies include planned or expected costs, such as required textbooks or course materials, and rent or utilities that are known prior to the start of the term.

Students seeking support or additional resources are encouraged to submit a CARE referral through the CURA Network at www.LUC.edu/cura and meet with a CARE Case Manager to explore available options.
