Summer Paid Internships for Humanities/Social Sciences PhD Students
In the summer of 2026, Loyola University Chicago is offering an internship program for PhD students in the Humanities/Social Sciences sponsored by The Graduate School. Our internships are designed to provide PhD students the opportunity to explore a potential non-academia career path.
The internships will take place June through August of 2026. Students who participate will be expected to work 20 hours per week on the internship. Participants will have to complete one informational interview with internship site staff and write a short report at the end of the internship. Interns will be paid a stipend of $4,000.
Application Process, Requirements and Deadline
Applications can be submitted online through Handshake.
All applicants must have the approval of their Graduate Program Director.
Humanities/Social Sciences PhD students at any stage of their degree program can apply for up to two internships and should indicate which is their first choice. Providing a second choice is optional. We are offering four different internships. All internships will be either on-site or hybrid (based on specific site requirements).

Additional Information
- You must be a currently enrolled PhD student to apply for a position
- You must be a student in a Humanities discipline (Theology, Philosophy, History, English) OR Social Sciences discipline (Psychology, Sociology, Political Science)
- If you are applying for 2 positions, please indicate 1st or 2nd choice in your cover letter
- Please provide a specific cover letter, 2 references, 1 Recommendation Letter, and GPD approval for each position. (You can use the same references, but list them on each specific application)
- Please note: A student cannot receive 2 sources of funding from the Graduate School over a single summer
- Students who have previously received a TGS Humanities PhD Internship may not apply
