Three Minute Thesis 2026
The Graduate School celebrated its graduate student scholars at the 2026 Three Minute Thesis (3MT) competition, an event that challenges students to present their research to a non-specialist audience in just three minutes. Developed by the University of Queensland, the international competition highlights graduate students’ academic excellence and their ability to communicate complex research with clarity and impact.
Karen Chang of the Department of Microbiology and Immunology earned first place for her presentation, “Treating Chronic Allergic Asthma: Disrupting the Source of IgE.” Ms. Chang is now invited to compete in the regional 3MT trials taking place at the Midwest Association of Graduate Schools (MAGS) annual conference in Kansas City in March. In addition to taking the top prize, Ms. Chang also received the Best Slide Design award.
Suzanne Quinn from the Department of Integrative Cell Biology and Katie Brandi of the Department of Sociology nabbed the second and third place prizes respectively.
The annual 3MT competition showcases the breadth of graduate research at Loyola and underscores the importance of effective research communication across disciplines. Congratulations to all of our participants!
