Director's Welcome
Director's Welcome
Welcome! I am delighted to extend a warm welcome to you as we present our inaugural Center for Health Outcomes and Informatics Research (CHOIR) Impact Report, an exploration into our progress in advancing research and the profound impact we have made on the wellbeing of individuals and populations. This report serves as a testament to our dedication to service and to making a positive difference in the lives of people within the communities we serve.
CHOIR serves to educate and engage faculty, healthcare professionals, physicians and students in the fundamentals of health outcomes research and data-driven healthcare delivery in order to improve outcomes and health equity. Our vision is to establish CHOIR as a Center of Excellence to both educate and lead an innovative research program focused on leveraging our informatics infrastructure and large heterogeneous data sets across the Loyola University Health System, Trinity Health, and other facilities within the community. Our goal is to transform data into actionable knowledge that will improve health outcomes and reduce health inequities.
The Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health is driven by five core pillars: understanding the health continuum, meeting the demands of allyship, translating insight to impact, learning by continually doing, and embodying The Loyola Way. You will find much of this report highlights the Translating Insight to Impact pillar, as it showcases that our research does not reside exclusively within the confines of academia. Since 2017, CHOIR has provided over $1.3M in grant funding to over 25 faculty members with research projects in three core areas: Health Equity and Social Determinants of Health, Disease Prevention and Management, and Lifestyle Factors. Each project is unique and impactful in its scope, ambition, and goal. Often these grants serve as a stepping stone to larger research funding opportunities with entities such as the National Institutes of Health and the National Science Foundation.
This report provides a snapshot into our unwavering commitment to excellence in informatics and translational science, and we are thrilled to share with you the remarkable achievements and initiatives that have shaped our journey. You will learn more about our faculty, their research and how it continues to impact the communities in which we, as a university, serve. As you explore the pages of this report, you will gain insights into the various initiatives, advancements, and outcomes that have shaped our institutional landscape over the past several years.
It is my hope that you will come away from this report with a better understanding of the breadth of our research projects and engagements. I also hope that you get to know more of our affiliated faculty better and understand how some of their academic passions have translated into a panoply of projects. You will also have an opportunity to understand the pace of academic research as you learn that while some projects are complete with publications, posters and press releases, others remain in the fact-finding and information gathering phases. At CHOIR, we have a fundamental belief that transparency builds trust, and this report is a testament to our ongoing efforts to keep you informed about our activities, achievements, and impact on health informatics. This is an open invitation for you to engage with the content, ask questions, and provide feedback as we continue our journey towards providing thought-provoking, insightful and engaging research.
Thank you for your continued support and partnership in making a positive impact on the health and well-being of our communities.
Sincerely,
