Leonard P. Slotkowski Jr. (JFRC ’65–‘66, BA ’69, MEd ’72)
2012's Spirit of Felice Award Winner
Leonard Slotkowski Jr. is a consultant for several organizations in the food industry and director of business development for a company that provides green products and solutions to Fortune 500 and 1,000 companies and businesses. Slotkowski was named to the advisory board of the Joan & Ray Kroc Center of Chicago.
After graduating from Loyola with a bachelor’s degree in history and master’s degree in education, Slotkowski began his career in education, teaching at both high schools and junior colleges. After several years working at Gordon Tech High School and the College of Lake County, Slotkowski entered his family’s meat and sausage-making business. He spent several years there before he discovered a specific business niche within the artificial-casing aspect of the industry. This led him to form a long business affiliation with Teepak, a national film-packing company. After 35 years as a business leader in the food industry, Slotkowski retired in June 2011.
Always interested in expanding his horizons, Slotkowski studied abroad his junior year at the Rome Center. Slotkowski considers his year abroad to be the most transformational year of his life. He has returned to Rome over 16 times since that original trip in 1965 and is one of the founding members of the JFRC Alumni Board, serving over 12 years on the board and as president his last four years.
Slotkowski is active in and supportive of several community organizations and charities. The Wisconsin Association for the Blind and Visually Impaired, the Chicago Lighthouse, and the Guild for the Blind are particularly important to Slotkowski for all the support and assistance they have given his brother and son who are both legally blind.
