This course explores Chicago's dynamic past and its ongoing story of growth and transformation.
Together. we'll trace the histories and contributions of Indigenous, Black, Latino, Japanese, Muslim, Italian, German, Jewish, Ir1sh, and many other communities that form Chicago's cultural mosaic.
You'll engage with the city's revolutions In labor, racial justice, and social movements to understand how these forces have defined urban life and citizenship.
We'll examine the processes of urbanization. beautification, and city planning that have continually reshaped Chicago's landscape-from architecture and public transportation to civil engineering and infrastructure. You'll also explore the city's vibrant music. food. and creative scenes, seeing how everyday culture expresses ident1ty, resistance and innovation.
