Shared Governance Involvement
Shared Governance and Getting Involved
Shared governance is a collaborative decision-making process that gives staff, faculty, students, and administrators a voice in shaping institutional policies and procedures. The goal of shared governance is to foster transparency, respect, and shared responsibility in advancing the university’s mission. Senate serves as a coordinating body for the various shared governance bodies of the University as a way to share information, collaborate on initiatives, and raise awareness of concerns facing the University Community.
You can be involved in the shared governance process in a number of ways:
Attend a University Senate Meeting
- All University Senate meetings are open to the entire University community (faculty, students, and staff).
- As time permits, the Chair will allow a public comment period on each University Senate agenda item.
Contact your shared governance body
- Agenda items for University Senate are brought forward by the various constituent groups representing the university community:
- Faculty Council represents faculty interests
- University Staff Council represents staff interests
- Student Government of Loyola Chicago (SLGC) represents undergraduate student interests
- Student Government of Arrupe College represents the interests of Arrupe College students
- Graduate, Professional, and Adult Council represents the interests of graduate, professional, and adult students
- Graduate Student Advisory Council represents the interests of graduate students
- These shared governance bodies should be your first point of contact for raising shared governance issues. Representatives from these bodies can then bring those issues to University Senate. Review our membership page for your current Senate representatives.
