Core Review Milestones
August 2025
- Provost meets with deans and Faculty Council leadership to discuss core curriculum review
- Provost describes core curriculum review during University Convocation
September 2025
- Nominations for faculty representatives from colleges/schools/institutes, Faculty Council, university libraries as well as representatives from academic advising, mission integration, and undergraduate students
October 2025
- Provost establishes 18-member workgroup of faculty, staff, and a student
- Core curriculum review and workgroup membership is announced through faculty-wide email
- Workgroup begins discussion on how to accomplish first phase of the core curriculum review
- Presentation on and discussion with Faculty Council
November 2025
- Workgroup identifies key stakeholders identified and methods of engagement with stakeholders
- Workgroup identifies data in addition to stakeholder engagement needed to complete phase 1 report
- Workgroup pre-tests surveys with faculty and students
January 2026
- Surveys distributed to students, academic advisors, and faculty
- Faculty town halls (3 on Lake Shore, 2 on Water Tower, and 1 on Zoom) begin
- Presentation on and discussion with Faculty Council
February 2026
- All surveys are closed
- Focus groups with many stakeholder groups, including students, academic advisors, faculty, department chairs, deans, and Jesuit community
- Workgroup discusses results of surveys, focus groups, town halls, interviews (with President and Provost) as well as additional data
May 2026
- Workgroup drafts report on whether any revisions to the core curriculum are desirable and, if so, what themes emerged during stakeholder engagement that might be considered
- Report is shared with Provost and with university community
- Based on the report, the Provost determines whether to move forward with phase 2 of the review process
IMPORTANT: If revisions are not recommended, the review process concludes. If revisions are recommended, the review process continues with the following major milestones:
April 2026
- Workgroup begins drafting potential models of a revised core
October 2026
- Workgroup presents several models to the university for discussion (using a similar process to phase 1)
February 2027
- A revised core is approved
- Discussion on the plan for implementation of the revised core begins
April 2027
- Implementation plan for the revised core is approved
August 2028
- Fall cohort of Loyola students is first class to use new Loyola core
