Program Review Milestones

August 2025 

  • Provost meets with deans and Faculty Council leadership to discuss program array review 
  • Nominations for faculty representatives from colleges/schools/institutes, Faculty Council, the Board of Undergraduate Studies, and the Graduate Studies Coordinating Board 
  • Provost describes program array review during University Convocation 

September 2025 

  • Provost establishes 18-member faculty workgroup 
  • Program array review and faculty workgroup membership is announced through faculty-wide email 
  • Faculty workgroup begins process of identifying program types and appropriate assessment criteria for each program type 
  • Presentation on and discussion about program array with Faculty Council 

October 2025 

  • Update to and discussion with deans 
  • Update to and discussion with Faculty Council 
  • Faculty workgroup continues work on program types and assessment criteria 

November 2025 

  • Update to and discussion with Faculty Council 
  • Faculty workgroup finalizes program types, assessment criteria, and forms to gather information directly from programs 

December 2025 

  • Program-level data are sent to academic units for review and potential revision 
  • Forms to gather additional information that will be used by the program array faculty workgroup are sent to academic units 
  • Faculty workgroup begins discussion of the appeals process 

January 2026 

  • Quantitative and qualitative data for programs are finalized 
  • Faculty workgroup begins deliberation on programs 
  • Update to and discussion with deans 
  • Update to and discussion with Faculty Council 

February 2026 

  • Appeal process is established and shared with academic units 
  • Faculty workgroup provides recommendations to Provost for program designations (continue, modify, sunset) along with a summary of comments from their program-level discussions 

March 2026 

  • Provost reviews faculty workgroup recommendations and makes initial program designations 
  • Provost meets with dean of each academic unit to review initial program designations and adjusts designations as needed 
  • Initial program designations (continue, modify, sunset) are shared with academic units; for programs designated as modify or sunset, a summary of comments is also provided 
  • Any program designated as modify or sunset wishing to appeal their designation begins appeal process 
  • Update to and discussion with Faculty Council 
  • Update to and discussion with deans 

April 2026 

  • Program-level appeals are submitted through their dean’s office to the Provost 
  • Appeals are considered by Provost and faculty workgroup 
  • Provost makes final designations for all programs and communicates these designations with the university 

May 2026 

  • Any program designated for modification begins creating program modification proposal; guidelines for modification as well as ongoing support provided by Provost’s Office 
  • Any program designated for sunset is brought to President and Board of Trustees for final approval 
  • Any program that is sunset begins full teach-out of all students enrolled in the program and stops admitting students to the program 

November 2026 

  • For programs designated as modify, modification proposals are due to the Provost 
  • Modifications implemented according to the individual proposals
