This list is intended to be a resource in the search for scholarship opportunities to help subsidize your graduate education. The Financial Aid Office also offers scholarship opportunities through the Loyola Scholarship Connection- please ensure to review and apply through this system for additional opportunities not listed below.

Internal School of Social Work Scholarships

Performance-based scholarship focused on student need

Awarded to incoming admitted MSW students who demonstrate financial need, community engagement, a commitment to academic success at Loyola, and potential in the social work profession. Students can apply for this scholarship directly through their admitted student portal. The strength of all application materials (i.e. personal statement, resume, and FAFSA* application) is considered when awarding these internal scholarships.

*Students ineligible for FAFSA can still apply to the scholarship by completing the net price calculator form and uploading the results into the scholarship application. Please note, while the terminology on this online calculator is geared towards undergraduate programs, the financial questions and outcomes are still relevant for graduate programs.

Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County (HFNLC) Scholarship

The Healthcare Foundation of Northern Lake County (HFNLC) Scholarship is awarded to a handful of incoming 2026/2027 MSW students who demonstrate financial need and promise to the social work profession within the regions of Northern Lake County, IL and will commit to working as a social worker within Northern Lake County for a minimum of 2 years after graduating with their MSW degree from Loyola University Chicago.

Students may apply for this scholarship directly on your admitted student portal. The strength of all application materials (i.e. personal statement, resume, and FAFSA* application) is considered when awarding this scholarship.

*Students ineligible for FAFSA can still apply to the scholarship by completing the net price calculator form and uploading the results into the scholarship application. Please note, while the terminology on this online calculator is geared towards undergraduate programs, the financial questions and outcome are still relevant for graduate programs. 

Awards will be given on a first come first serve basis and the application will remain open until all funding is exhausted.

Westlake Health Foundation Scholarship

The Westlake Health Foundation has granted the School of Social Work scholarship funding that is awarded to a handful of incoming and continuing 2026/2027 MSW students who demonstrate financial need and dedication to the social work profession in western Cook County, IL. The scholarship is intended to help address the need for more healthcare providers and mental health professionals in the region.

Students living within the western Cook County regions who submit the general application through the Loyola Scholarship Connection will be considered for this award. The priority deadline to submit the general scholarship application is April 15, 2026; however, the application will remain open until all awards have been made.

External Scholarships

  • NASW Foundation: The National Association of Social Workers (NASW) Foundation offers various scholarships, fellowships, and awards to support students pursuing a variety of social work specialties.
  • Carl A. Scott Book Scholarship: Recognizes full-time students in their final year of social work education who have demonstrated commitment to promoting social justice and equity. The scholarships are targeted but not limited to minority/BIPOC individuals. 
  • The Alpha Kappa Alpha Educational Advancement Foundation Scholarship: Provides merit and financial assistance graduate scholarships to full-time students who demonstrate community service and involvement.
  • The Point Foundation Flagship Scholarship: Supports full-time students with a track record of leadership and community involvement, strong academic achievement, and working for the betterment of the LGBTQ community.  
  • Roy Scrivner Memorial Research Grants: A $9,000 grant for empirical and applied research focused on LGBT family psychology and LGBT family therapy.
  • National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP): Offers numerous scholarships to students who display academic excellence and early signs of leadership and a commitment to social justice.
  • The Melanie Foundation: Awards a $2,500 scholarship to a candidate pursuing a graduate degree in the mental health field. 
  • Loan Repayment Program: Sponsored by the National Health Service Corps (NHSC), the Loan Repayment Program is a federal program for Licensed Clinical Social Workers with a commitment to working in an underserved area. Participants can earn up to $55,000 to repay student loans.
  • CSWE Minority Fellowship Program: CSWE's Minority Fellowship Program (MFP) opportunities support the mission of the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration to improve behavioral healthcare outcomes for all by providing professional development and training opportunities for the behavioral health workforce. 
  • Davis-Putter Scholarship Fund: Provides financial support for students who are active and emerging organizers in progressive movements for liberation, self-determination, and social and economic justice in their communities. These needs-based scholarships are awarded to students who are enrolled at a college or university or in a trade or technical program.
  • Leopold Schepp Foundation: Awards educational scholarships to full-time undergraduate and graduate students who demonstrate a combination of fine character, academic excellence, financial need, compassion, a commitment to volunteerism and whose goal will benefit mankind.
  • American School Health Association: The American School Health Association (ASHA) aspires to lead, educate, and activate multidisciplinary school health professionals and other champions as they work in their communities across the country to implement our mission to transform all schools into places where every student learns and thrives.
  • Provident Scholarship Fund: The goal of this scholarship program is to provide opportunities to students coming from communities that historically have faced greater challenges, including access to education, economic opportunities, transportation, food or medical care. Scholarship awards range from $10,000 to $20,000 for MSW students and/or CADC students. Application closes April 19, 2026
  • Banyan Next Generation Healers Scholarship: Banyan recognizes the critical role healthcare professionals such as doctors, nurses, therapists, psychologists, counselors, and social workers play in guiding individuals through recovery and fostering overall wellness. To support the next generation of these vital professionals, they are offering a $1,000 scholarship tailored for working students. Applications close May 14, 2026.
  • Department of Family and Support Services (DFSS) Community Service Block Grant (CSBG) ScholarshipThe DFSS CSBG Scholarship Program provides financial assistance to income-eligible individuals in Chicago pursuing their higher education goals. Students enrolled at least part-time for the Fall 2026 semester in any college, university, or vocational training program are eligible to apply. Funds may be used to cover tuition and institutional fees for the Fall 2026 semester or quarter. Scholarships will range from $1,000 to $5,000 for income-eligible residents. Application deadline: Wednesday, May 6 at 5 p.m.
