Maribel Lopez PVSA Award
Loyola School of Social Work Clinical Assistant Professor Dr. Maribel Lopez was recently recognized in Miami with the President's Volunteer Service Award. Her work as Director of the School of Social Work's Online Bilingual MSW program and service outside Loyola with Restored Ministries, an organization she founded with her husband, were cited as reason's to award Lopez the top honor.
"It's humbling, it's an honor," Dr. Lopez said. "I want to make sure to recognize everybody who came before me and made me who I am today. Those who working in the trenches every day to make our community better.
Restored Ministries provides food, clothing, scholarships, and leadership training to underserved populations. She has also partnered with other organizations for other services, such as providing prom dresses to high schoolers in need via her daughter's organization, A Beautiful Project.
About the President's Volunteer Service Award
The President's Volunteer Service Award was established by President George W. Bush in 2002 to recognize individuals who give hundreds of hours of service to others through the President's Council on Service and Civil Participation. The four levels of recognition, Bronze, Silver, Gold, and Lifetime Achievement, are awarded based on hours of community service performed.
