Time: 11:00 a.m. – 12:30 p.m. (CT)
Location: Virtual via Zoom
Loyola University Chicago’s School of Social Work, in collaboration with Loyola’s Military Veteran Student Services, invites students, alumni, and community members to attend "Serving Those Who Served: A Day in the Life of a VA Social Worker." This free, virtual event will bring together three licensed clinical social workers from the Jesse Brown VA Medical Center to explore how social workers can better serve and support veterans in our communities.
Panelists Asya Brodsky, LCSW, Shankar Peterson, LCSW, and Tonnia Koehler, LCSW will share their expertise and experiences working with veterans in clinical and community settings. The conversation will be moderated by Klarissa Go, an MSW student and U.S. veteran, who will pose questions about best practices, cultural competency, and the unique challenges veterans face when transitioning to civilian life.
Attendees will gain valuable insights into trauma-informed care, veteran-specific resources, and the importance of cultural humility when working with those who have served. Participants will also earn 1.5 Continuing Education Units (CEUs) that satisfy the cultural competency requirement for social work relicensure.
This event is free and open to the public. Advance registration is required to receive the Zoom link and CEU credit.
