Graduate and Independent Students
Studying or engaging abroad as a Loyola graduate or independent student opens the door to incredible opportunities for academic growth, professional development, and meaningful global experiences. Whether you’re earning credit through a graduate or professional program sponsored by your academic department or participating in a non-credit international opportunity such as a mission trip, service project, clinical rotation, or co-curricular experience, Loyola has structures in place to support your journey.
Graduate and professional programs and independent international programs—those tied to student organizations, service, athletics, or alumni groups—are managed by the sponsoring department or unit and registered with the Office of Global and Community Engagement.
The Study Abroad Office ensures every participant is registered and enrolled in Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI), keeping your global experience safe, supported, and seamless.

Travel Registration for University-Affiliated International Activities
If you are traveling abroad on a university-affiliated activity—such as independent study, research, fieldwork, business travel, conferences, student organization programs, or athletics—you are required to complete the individual travel registration and review the international travel policy. Program Registration & CISI Insurance Enrollment
All Loyola University Chicago departments or units conducting an international program must register their activity with the Office of Global and Community Engagement (OGCE). Once the program is registered, the Study Abroad Office will handle enrollment in Cultural Insurance Services International (CISI) for participants. Program administrators have two enrollment options to choose from: Self-Enroll, where participants enroll individually, or Department Paid, where the department covers the insurance costs.
