PDF Checklist

Before uploading, ask:

  • Is this content already on the website?
    • If yes, a PDF is not needed. Do not upload duplicate content. Update the existing web page instead.
    • If no, continue to the next question.
  • Does this need to be printed?
    • If yes, a PDF may be appropriate. It must meet accessibility standards before publishing.
    • If no, a web page is likely a better option. Web pages provide a better reading experience (especially on mobile) and improved accessibility. Plus, users do not print as often as they once did.
  • Could this work better as a web page?
    • If yes, build it as a web page instead of a PDF. Web pages are easier to read, update, search, and track.
    • If not, continue to the next question.
  • Will users need to read this on mobile?
    • If yes, a web page is strongly recommended. PDFs are often difficult to read and navigate on mobile devices.
    • If no, continue to the next question.
  • Does it meet accessibility standards?
    • If yes, it may be submitted for review.
    • If no or unsure, do not upload. Submit it for review first.
