Message from the CIO, LeRoy Butler, PhD

Dear Loyola University Chicago Community,

As we reflect on the past year and look ahead, I want to begin by expressing my deepest gratitude to the dedicated staff of Information Technology Services (ITS). Their expertise and commitment have been instrumental in advancing our university’s mission. I also extend my appreciation to our faculty, staff, and students for your ongoing collaboration and support as we continue to innovate together.
This year, ITS made significant strides in modernizing our technology environment. We successfully launched a comprehensive Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) transformation program, improved existing technology resources and services, expanded campus-wide access to technology, and strengthened our information security posture. These efforts have resulted in more efficient administrative processes, improved connectivity for all, and enhanced protection of university data.

Guided by the university’s new strategic plan, ITS developed a strategic framework for enterprise technology that focused on four pillars: enhancing the student experience, modernizing the IT enterprise architecture, expanding research support, and supporting data-informed decision-making. This framework ensures that our technology initiatives directly support Loyola’s institutional goals and vision. As a result, ITS has begun work on the following initiatives:

  • ERP Transformation: We will modernize our administrative systems, making them more efficient and user-friendly for faculty, staff, and students.
  • Learning Spaces: ITS will enhance technology and learning spaces, fostering an environment of innovation and academic excellence.
  • Infrastructure Upgrades: Our team has begun upgrading core technology infrastructure and expanding internet access to nearly all campus areas, ensuring reliable connectivity for the entire community.
  • Information Security: ITS implemented advanced security measures, resulting in a measurable reduction in incidents and stronger protection of university data.

For a detailed overview, I encourage you to review the full FY26 Technology Report.

These initiatives have had (and will continue to have) a direct, positive impact on teaching, learning, and research at Loyola University Chicago. Faculty and students now benefit from more reliable systems, faster access to resources, and safer digital environments.

We are committed to continuous improvement. In the coming year, ITS will focus on further modernizing our systems, expanding digital resources, and deepening our partnerships across campus to ensure technology continues to empower our community.
Your feedback is invaluable. Please share your comments and questions with us at ITSservicedesk@luc.edu. Together, we can shape technology services that truly meet the needs of our university.

Thank you for your ongoing support and partnership. I look forward to continuing this important work with all of you as we advance technology at Loyola University Chicago.

Sincerely,

LeRoy Butler, PhD
