Tomorrow we leave for Quinlan Ramble, and more than anything I’m taken aback by how quickly it feels like this has come! But I’m not complaining! #springbreakherewecome
After I finish some much dreaded finals by midnight, I have a feeling I’ll be up for a bit packing - hopefully not an all nighter, but we’ll see (spoiler alert: it was). I’m excited that I don’t have to wear or pack any massive jackets because HELLO LA it is literally in the 70’s/80’s all week. I’m getting ready to bask in the sun which is already such a stark difference from when I did this trip in NYC (especially since I was there last week, and they had a state of emergency blizzard….)
I’m really excited for the trip for a few reasons - the first being to get to have two different versions of this experience. Going bi-coastal and doing this sophomore year when I was still figuring out my professional goals and interests, to now being a senior getting ready to graduate and hopefully getting to help other students gain clarity through this trip for themselves.
I’m sure you’ve heard about the decades long debate of Big Apple vs Sunny LA and how most people find themselves on either side of the spectrum. I’ll be the first to say I’m sucker for NYC, and really any very chaotic jam-packed city that’s walkable - it oddly makes me feel at ease. LA, is honestly quite the opposite of that: much more spread out, drivable, a mellow aura from what I’ve heard, and I’m excited to see it through my own eyes.
And lastly, but of course, the professional experiences. At our last pre-departure meeting when we were reviewing all the site visits and speakers, my jaw was genuinely dropping every five seconds. We are going to some cool places and meeting even cooler people (which you’ll hear about in the days to come). I’m really curious to see how it all goes and hear from the students who are on the trip about what they like and are learning. It’s always such a wonderful reminder that people who had the same educational background and the same resource toolkit that I have right now as a Loyola student are going on to do things they’re genuinely proud of and passionate about and then coming back to share that with us.
I’m so curious to meet LA and our alumni, all with an Erewhon Hailey Bieber smoothie in my hand. LA here we come!
