Lab manager and safety officer
Bailey Coward coordinates research and teaching lab spaces, operates and maintains analytical instruments for researchers, and trains students in lab safety and best lab practices.

Daniel Hayden, PhD
Taylor and Paulette O’Malley Postdoctoral Scholar of Food Systems
Daniel Hayden earned his PhD in plant pathology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. His work at Loyola involves helping urban growers address concerns about soil health.

Maya Kelly
Sustainability manager
Maya Kelly is an SES alum dedicated to fostering a better relationship between humans and the planet. In her role in the Office of Sustainability, she helps Loyola reduce its environmental footprint.

Jackie Nowotnic has over 10 years of experience providing holistic student support through academic advising and student engagement. She holds a master’s in educational leadership in higher education from Northeastern Illinois University.

At the start of 2025, Loyola University Chicago reached a remarkable sustainability milestone, becoming one of only 15 carbon-neutral universities nationwide. Loyola is currently developing its next Climate Action Plan as a part of the University’s five-year strategic plan.

In June, 2025, Nancy C. Tuchman, PhD, stepped down from her role as founding dean of the School of Environmental Sustainability, leaving behind a decades-long legacy of leadership, innovation, and deep commitment to justice through ecological stewardship.

Scholarship fund honors a legacy of visionary leadership
Nancy Tuchman has been a driving force behind Loyola University Chicago’s journey to becoming one of the country’s most environmentally sustainable universities—and the first Jesuit institution to create a School of Environmental Sustainability. To honor her service, Loyola established the Nancy C. Tuchman Scholarship Fund to provide financial support for SES students in perpetuity.
