Loyola University Employees Federal Credit Union Merger with Credit Union 1

Formed by a group of people with a common link, like their profession or place of work, a credit union is run by its members. The initial capital to start the credit union comes from the founding members who pool their own money as savings and make low-cost loans to each other.

Credit Union Merger

Loyola University Employees Federal Credit Union (LUEFCU) has merged with Credit Union 1 (CU1), expanding banking options for members with enhanced digital tools and access to a larger network of branches and ATMs.

Members should have received mail notification about the merger as well as a welcome packet from Credit Union 1 with important information about their new account and services.

As part of the transition, new Credit Union 1 debit cards will be mailed to members’ homes beginning March 11, 2026. The Loyola Maywood credit union branch will close permanently at 3:00 p.m. on March 27, 2026, and LUEFCU debit cards will be deactivated on March 31, 2026, at which time members should begin using their new Credit Union 1 debit cards.

Members should be aware of the following important transition dates:

  • March 11, 2026 – New Credit Union 1 debit cards will be mailed to members’ homes.
  • March 27, 2026 – The Loyola Maywood Credit Union branch will close permanently at 3:00 p.m.
  • March 31, 2026 – LUEFCU debit cards will be deactivated, and members should begin using their new Credit Union 1 debit cards.

Members should review the welcome packet mailed by Credit Union 1 and prepare to update any automatic payments, direct deposits, or payroll deductions once their new account information becomes available.


Employees Depositing Their LUC Paychecks into a Credit Union Account

Loyola employees who currently have their Loyola University Chicago paycheck deposited into their Credit Union Account must update the Credit Union Banking Account information in Employee Self-Service once their new Credit Union 1 account details are available. All banking account updates for direct deposit of pay must be completed in Employee Self Service (ESS) at https://ess.luc.edu/ .

Credit Union 1 will host two informational webinars for members to learn more about the transition and ask questions.

Members are encouraged to attend one of these sessions to understand the upcoming changes and available services better.


🔑 Accessing New Account Information

Employees will not have access to their new Credit Union 1 account and routing numbers until April 2, 2026. Only after this date will members be able to register for their accounts, view their new account information, and begin using Credit Union 1 digital banking.

Until then, members should:

  • Continue using their LUEFCU accounts and debit cards (active until March 31, 2026).
  • Review the welcome packet mailed by Credit Union 1 for instructions and important information.
  • Prepare to update any direct deposits, automatic payments, or other payment information once the new account details are available.

  • November 30, 2025 – Legal merger completed
  • March 11, 2026 – New Credit Union 1 debit cards mailed to members’ homes
  • March 27, 2026 – Loyola Maywood branch closes permanently at 3:00 p.m.
  • March 31, 2026 – LUEFCU debit cards will be deactivated, and members will begin using their new Credit Union 1 debit cards
