Residential Curriculum
Designed for your success
The Department of Residence Life utilizes a residential curriculum to clearly identify outcomes rooted in student learning. A curricular approach is rooted in research, data, and ongoing trends in higher education and at Loyola University Chicago. Through various educational strategies, the Residence Life team engages with each student to promote holistic learning and development. Our educational priority is, in partnership with our residents, to provide a transformative residential experience rooted in Jesuit values that promotes independence, community development, and academic success.
Living on campus is more than just a place to stay. Living in the residence halls provides an educational environment which can contribute to overall collegiate experience. The University Residency Requirement still includes both first- and second-year students. Higher Education research over the past 40 years demonstrates a more productive and more satisfying experience for students who reside in university residence halls than those who live off-campus, including academic success and persistence to graduation.
Learning Independence
As students transition and navigate the collegiate environment, it is imperative to learn skills that will assist them to grow personally, amongst their peers, and within the Loyola and greater Chicago community. The residential experience will promote opportunities that will encourage wellness, impactful action, and belonging.
Uniting with Community
The residential experience promotes personal and social development as students actively engage in their communities. Through collaboration and leadership, students can expand their understanding of others and their impact on the world.
Cultivating Academic Success
The residential experience can serve as a bridge between classroom and co-curricular environments to promote comprehensive student learning. Skills developed in and outside of the classroom will promote academic success and career readiness.
