Credit and Grade Conversion

Credit and Grade Transfer

All study abroad participants are required to complete their program courses for credit and a letter grade, per the Study Abroad Office's Academic Policies and Procedures. The credits and grades you earn abroad will be reflected on your Loyola transcript and be factored into your Loyola cumulative GPA.

For more information on Pass/No Pass policies and other academic policies and procedures, reference here.

Affiliate Programs

Program Center Courses

Affiliate programs which include our Jesuit partners—SLU Madrid, Marquette University, and Fordham London—and our other partners—API, IES, USAC, DIS, SIT, SFS, ISEP, LSE—are taught and graded on a U.S. academic system. The Study Abroad Office receives a transcript from these partners with U.S. credits and grades assigned.

Direct-Enroll

Most affiliate partners typically list credit hours in U.S. credit hours for each course and program on their websites; however, some facilitated direct-enroll programs will require you to contact the affiliate partner or reference their specific syllabi or conversion chart. When the Study Abroad Office receives the transcript, it is accompanied by a supplemental credit conversion chart which indicates the appropriate U.S. credits and grades earned for that course as is listed on the affiliate partner website.

Exchange/Direct-Enroll Programs

Exchange programs at international universities do not use the U.S. credit hour system. The grade equivalencies vary by institution and country as well. The Study Abroad Office converts the credit hours based on these grade and credit scales.
